A Note on Dogfighting

The Humane Society of the United States estimates there are over 250,000 fighting dogs involved in sophisticated organized crime operations each year, involving 40,000 hard-core gamblers in the United States and an additional 100,000 dogs involved in street-level fighting.

"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the wellbeing of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way."
                              Dr Martin Luther King, Jr

Urgent Help Needed for Trapped Orcas!

A pod of Orcas- killer whales is trapped in the ice with a breathing hole of only approximately ten meters. It is reported the whales are bleeding, they are observed to be "taking turns" coming up for air via this small opening in the ice. The Canadian authorities have known of the predicament of the orcas since Tuesday and have not acted. Supposedly, an US Coastguard icebreaker is on it's way, but will not arrive until morning. Kasco is launching the rescue effort and is in need of a plane for transportation. Also, heavy-duty chainsaws, fuel, generators, tents, food & coffee are needed. If you or anyone you know can help, please contact 715-262-4488 ext 100. Thanks!

Pitbull Sales Scam Artist Alert!
Savannah, Tennessee

From Facebook user Katrina Davis: "ok everyone...DO NOT ever buy a puppy from Eric who owns he advertises fake pitbulls and demands money for fake vet bills...He will tell you he has a certain dog you want, take your deposit and run. Today he tried to say he wanted 900 dollars for vet bills for a sick puppy that I supposedly was supposed to get, while also 'selling' the same puppy to a couple of my friends undercover."

Thug has bad crime day, dog pays!

An American Bulldog mix named Duke defended his family when an intruder broke into the family home. This case out of Toledo, Ohio involves a criminal who had a bad crime day, and now Duke the dog and his owner, Carissa Curry, a single working mother may pay. Duke bit the intruder who now cries, "victim".
The man claims he was just walking down the street minding his own business when Duke came running out of his yard and bit him for no reason at all. When Ms. Curry came home, her door was open and the gate to the yard was unlocked. Duke is not an outside dog and was left shut in the house when Ms. Curry left for work. It is clear to her this man broke into her house and Duke, being a good dog must have run the burglar off, biting him in the process.
The Lucas County Dog Warden has pressed charges against Duke's owner. Now Duke faces the lifelong label of "Dangerous Dog" which is accompanied with a host of ridiculous regulations. Ms. Curry could face eviction and loss of her job in healthcare if convicted of charges, although a "failure to confine" charge has recently been dropped.

Please donate to the legal defense fund to help Ms. Curry and Duke. This could happen to any of us.
